PART THREE

Crach, do you mind if we continue talking about dragons?

“I do not mind at all and am grateful for the opportunity to do so. Dragons are my friends and Tan-y-Mynedd, wisest of all was a tutor when I was an apprentice, later becoming a great friend. Dragons are mystical and magical creatures, their true natures unknown to most.”

But not to all?

“Not to me!”

Would you tell our readers more about Tan-y-Mynedd?

“What would you like to know? There is so much to tell and knowing where to start such a great story about this beautiful creature, could be years of your time in the telling, yet no time at all for me.”

In the ‘Prophecy’ Tan-y-Mynedd thinks there may be a cache of eggs somewhere, hidden deep in the caves of Wales. Does he find them?

“You will have to read ‘Crach Ffinnant – Rise of the Dragon’ Book Two of  my stories to find out .. and it will be here soon as sure as day follows night.”

In the Prophecy, Tan-y-Mynedd teaches you a great lesson about illusions whilst you were an apprentice, with your old master Llywd ap Crachan Llwyd. Has it served you well since?

“As you will read in the story, this illusion was so great and powerful in imagery, without the teaching I would have been unable to pass this deep ravine, which was not at all as it first seemed to this dwarfs young eyes. Indeed I thought I may plummet to the depths of who knows where. Yet a dip of the toe (I hate getting my small feet wet) ripple after ripple fogging my vision……. and whoosh…… by dragons breath ……. an illusion. It has served me well as it would all. There are many illusions in nature where light plays with shadow and phantoms stalk our visions. A first glance creating fear or amazement of what is seen, only flicks of an eyebrow later, what we see is not what is there. Consider a walk at dusk and remember what you thought you saw.”

So you have noticed the absence of bears, wolves and dragons and I think you find this distressing Crach?

‘I am indeed distressed by such a travesty of injustice. Who gives anybody the right to destroy and annihilate sentient beings? Your country is a worse place for their absence. When I trod this earth over six hundred years ago, bears and wolves were commonly seen and avoided by anyone with any sense.

But Dragons….. where are they? 

Six hundred years is not that long for a dragon and they hate human kind with a vengeance after having such cruelty thrust upon them for centuries. In reality they are timid creatures contrary to their reputation for fierceness,  I hope there may be a few secreted deep in caves where mankind will never walk. There must be.. there has to be… we cannot live in harmony without dragon breath wisdom.

Tan-y-Mynedd is one of the wisest and he taught me much worthy of the knowing, when I was a young dwarf and along with so many others from magical realms, he served the Prophecy well.’ 

Do you think you have any other quest after six centuries of serving the Prophecy?

‘Of course I am questing to share stories of the old world with the new but, I must seek the dragons as in my heart I feel they are still with us. Your world as it is now, needs dragon wisdom more than ever. Breath and fire is life and it is rebirth of all things new, it must be protected, cherished and loved and tells us change is always constant. This is the wisdom of the dragon.’

AN INTERVIEW WITH CRACH FFINNANT

Welcome, Crach Ffinnant, to the year 2025. It has been over six hundred years since you last materialised on Earth. How are you adjusting to the changes?

‘It does seem a long time in the scheme of things. Six hundred years have passed with a wink of an eye for me, but for you, yes, it is a very long time indeed. As a dwarf, I am accustomed to change; as a magician, prophet, and seer, I embrace it. Change is forever constant. This was a lesson Llywd ap Crachan Llwyd taught me centuries past, one people would do well to learn today.

The most striking difference for me is the lack of active magic, the absence of living in harmony with nature, and all the beauty this adds to life. Folks have much to consider in this hectic world, and a preponderance of darkness shadows minds. Folks have always been greedy throughout time, a failing of mankind we all know, but in the world now, this greed is true madness. I am amazed at how much of nature, as I knew it, has disappeared, replaced by such huge, sprawling cities. The forests…. where are the forests? The bears, wolves and dragons, where are they?

So, adjustment is a necessity and cannot be ignored. Change has been astronomical as I see it, and lost or hidden is the magic to be lived. My purpose in returning after hundreds of years is to light souls with love, honour and humility. Justice will always prevail.’

‘ALL IS BLISS!’

After all these years, to finally have a publisher is a dream come true. Writing stories, songs and poetry for many years, my first manuscript appeared on publishers desks back in ’99’. Great review but I lacked the finance to go forward. My second had a similar response in 2016 and opened up a path leading to self-publishing. Crach Ffinnant The Prophecy received thirty rejections before winning Words Matter Publishing Holiday Book Writing Competition in January of this year.

‘Never give up’ they say! I did not, but I nearly did. Since beginning to work with Tammy Koelling the CEO of Words Matter Publishing, I can only say my confidence has zoomed. Helping with the art work, voiceover and music for the promotional video we became involved in ways we never imagined. Now we have a dedicated Authors page on Facebook, Facebook Crach Ffinnant Fan Group and this new website.

Winning this competition enabled me after all these years to arrive on global platforms. The future is unknown but the journey will be wonderful, join us.
