The Magical Cavern of Eryri

A Children’s Story adapted from an original idea by Gill Brooks

Once upon a time, in the heart of Eryri, there lived a group of animal friends who loved nothing more than exploring the mountains and valleys together. Among them were a badger named Shadow, a rabbit called Bobtail, a fox named Red, a dog named Dinky, and a cat named Clarissa.

Shadow was the oldest of the group, and he had lived in Eryri his whole life. He knew every inch of the mountains and valleys, and he loved to share his knowledge with all of his friends.

Bobtail was the youngest of the group, and he was always eager to learn from Shadow. He was a very quick learner and loved to discover new things. Red was an extremely mischievous fox, always looking for fun and adventure.

He was the joker of the group, always making his friends laugh with his jokes and pranks.

Dinky was a loyal and friendly dog, always eager to please his friends. He loved to run and play, and he was always up for an adventure. Clarissa was the most independent of the group. She liked to keep to herself and didn’t always join the others in their explorations.

But when she did come along, she was always a valuable member of the team. She was quick and agile, and she could climb trees like nobody else. Together, the group of friends would set out on long walks through the mountains and valleys. They would explore hidden caves and secret waterfalls, and marvel at the beauty of the natural world around them. Often they would stop for picnics and rest breaks, and share stories and jokes with each other.

One day, while they were out exploring, the group stumbled upon a hidden cave that they had never seen before. It was dark and mysterious, and they were all eager to explore it further. Shadow led the way, his sharp senses guiding him through the darkness. Bobtail followed close behind, his eyes wide with excitement. Red was the first to notice something strange about the cave.

“Hey, guys,” he said, “do you hear that?”

They all listened, and sure enough, they could hear a faint rumbling sound coming from deep within the cave. Without warning, the ground began to shake, and the rumbling grew louder. The animals looked at each other in alarm.

“We need to get out of here!” shouted Clarissa.

They all turned to run, but it was too late. The ground gave way beneath them, and they tumbled into a dark pit. For what felt like hours, the group lay in the darkness, unsure of what had happened. But slowly, they began to make out the shapes around them. They had fallen into a vast underground chamber, filled with sparkling crystals and glowing mushrooms.

As they explored the chamber, the animals realized that they had discovered something truly special. They had stumbled upon a hidden world beneath Eryri, a world that few had ever seen before. And they knew that they would never forget this adventure, or their friendship, for as long as they lived.

Toadstool Treasure

A Children’s Story

Once upon a time, in a forest far away, there lived a group of woodland creatures. Among them was a curious little squirrel named Sammy, who loved to explore the forest and discover new things. One day, as he was wandering through the woods, he stumbled upon a toadstool that glimmered in the sunlight.

Sammy had never seen anything like it before and was immediately intrigued. As he got closer, he noticed that there was a small opening beneath the toadstool. Being the curious squirrel that he was, Sammy decided to investigate.

To his amazement, he found a hidden underground chamber filled with treasure! There were glittering jewels, shining gold coins, and all sorts of precious trinkets scattered around the room.

Sammy couldn’t believe his luck. He had always dreamed of finding treasure, and now he had stumbled upon a whole chamber of it! But as he began to collect some of the jewels, he heard a faint voice calling out from behind him.

“Who goes there?” the voice said.

Sammy turned around and saw a tiny, old toad sitting on a nearby rock. The toad looked at him sternly and said,

“That treasure belongs to me. You have no right to take it.”

Sammy was taken aback. He had never met a talking toad before, let alone one that owned a treasure trove. But he knew that he didn’t want to upset the toad, so he decided to explain himself.

“I’m sorry,” he said. “I didn’t know this treasure belonged to anyone. I was just exploring the forest and stumbled upon this toadstool.”

The toad looked at Sammy for a moment before responding.

“Well, I suppose you didn’t know any better. But this treasure is very important to me. It has been passed down through my family for generations, and I can’t just let anyone take it.”

Sammy nodded understandingly. He didn’t want to cause any trouble, but he couldn’t help feeling a little disappointed. Just as he was about to leave, the toad spoke up again.

“However,” the toad said, “I do appreciate your honesty. And I think you have shown yourself to be a trustworthy creature. So, I will make you a deal. You can take one item from this treasure trove as a reward for your honesty.”

Sammy’s eyes widened in surprise. He had never expected to be rewarded for his honesty. He looked around the room and saw so many precious items to choose from. But after a moment’s thought, he saw a small, shiny acorn that caught his eye.

“I’ll take this,” he said, pointing to the acorn. “It’s not as valuable as the other items, but it reminds me of my home in the forest.”

The toad smiled at Sammy’s choice.

“Very well,” he said. “You may take the acorn. And remember, honesty is always the best policy.”

With that, Sammy bid farewell to the toad and the treasure trove and made his way back home through the forest. From that day on, he always remembered the toadstool treasure and the lesson he had learned about the value of honesty.

A Children’s Story

Once upon a time, in a magical forest where the sun always shone and the trees whispered secrets, there lived a beautiful unicorn named Luna. Luna was kind and gentle, with a heart full of love and a mane as white as snow. She spent her days prancing through the meadows, grazing on the sweetest flowers, and singing to the birds. One day, as Luna was wandering through the forest, she stumbled upon a group of fairies.

The fairies were dancing and singing, their wings sparkling in the sunlight. Luna watched in wonder as the fairies twirled and spun, their laughter filling the forest. The fairies noticed Luna and flew over to her. They introduced themselves and welcomed her to their magical kingdom. Luna was delighted to have made new friends and spent many happy days playing with the fairies.

One day, the fairies came to Luna with a problem. The evil witch who lived in a castle on the other side of the forest had cast a spell on the fairies’ kingdom, causing all the flowers to wilt and the animals to disappear. The fairies were afraid that soon they too would be affected by the witch’s curse. Luna knew she had to help her friends. She set out on a journey to the witch’s castle, determined to break the spell and save the fairies’ kingdom. Along the way, she encountered many obstacles, but with her strength and determination, she overcame them all.

Finally, Luna arrived at the witch’s castle. The witch tried to stop her, but Luna stood her ground. She charged at the witch with all her might, and with a powerful kick, she broke the spell.

The flowers bloomed once again, and the animals returned to the forest. The fairies were overjoyed to see their kingdom restored to its former glory.

They thanked Luna for her courage and bravery and crowned her the queen of the forest. Luna was delighted to have made such wonderful friends and to have been able to help them in their time of need. From that day on, Luna and the fairies lived happily ever after, playing in the meadows, singing to the birds, and dancing in the sunshine. And whenever they looked up at the sky, they saw Luna’s star shining brightly, a reminder of the magical adventure they had shared.

Fawna the Baby Fox

A Children’s Story

Once upon a time, in a forest far, far away, there lived a baby fox named Fawna. Fawna was born into a family of foxes that lived in a cozy den at the base of a large oak tree. Fawna was the youngest of her siblings, and she was always getting into mischief. One day, while her siblings were napping, Fawna snuck out of the den to explore the forest. She scampered through the underbrush, leaping over fallen logs and dodging branches. As she ran, she noticed a beautiful butterfly fluttering above her head. Fawna was mesmerized by the butterfly’s vibrant colors and graceful movements. She decided to follow it, hoping it would lead her to new adventures. The butterfly led Fawna to a clearing in the forest, where she saw a group of animals gathered around a stream. There were rabbits, squirrels, and even a family of deer.

They were all drinking from the stream, and Fawna was fascinated by how peacefully they coexisted. Suddenly, a group of hunters burst into the clearing. They were carrying guns and shouting loudly, and Fawna was terrified. She hid behind a bush and watched as the hunters began to shoot at the animals. Fawna felt helpless and didn’t know what to do. Just then, the butterfly she met earlier fluttered down and landed on Fawna’s nose. The butterfly whispered to Fawna,

“You may be small, but you are strong. Believe in yourself, and you can do anything.”

Feeling inspired, Fawna sprang into action. She ran around the hunters, distracting them and causing them to miss their shots. The other animals in the clearing saw what Fawna was doing and joined in the effort to stop the hunters. Together, the animals were able to chase away the hunters and save their homes in the forest. Fawna was hailed as a heroine, and the other animals thanked her for such incredible bravery.

From that day on, Fawna knew that she was capable of great things. Of course, she continued to explore the forest, but now she did so with a new sense of confidence and purpose. And every time she saw a butterfly, she remembered the wise words it had spoken to her and smiled.

Mrs. Brock the Badger’s Bicycle

A Children’s Story

Once upon a time, in a cozy little village nestled among rolling hills, lived a very friendly badger named Mrs. Brock. She was a kind and generous creature who loved to help others and spread joy wherever she went. Mrs. Brock the Badger had a passion for cycling and would often ride her bicycle around the village, and all around the countryside waving to her friends and neighbors, and even to folk she did not know as she peddled by.

One day, Mrs. Brock’s beloved bicycle broke down as the chain dropped off. She was heartbroken, and having no idea how to fix it she became very anxious. She tried to take it to the local bike shop, but sadly they were closed for the weekend. Mrs. Brock the Badger felt helpless and didn’t know what to do. A kind gentleman wearing a bowler hat who happened to be walking past offered to help, and without any difficulty at all quickly put the chain back on the cogs. His hands were covered in oil and Mrs. Badger gave him a handkerchief to clean it off. She thanked him for his help and gave him a jam tart from her basket in thanks.

Walking back to her home worried the chain might come off again, she pushed the bike along with one paw on the handlebars and another on the seat. Mrs. Brock the Badger noticed a group of children playing in a nearby park. They were having a great time, but Mrs. Brock the Badger couldn’t help but notice that they didn’t have any bicycles to ride. Deciding to approach them she thought she would strike up a conversation.

“Hello, my little friends,” Mrs. Brock the Badger said with a warm smile. “I couldn’t help but notice that you don’t have any bicycles to ride. Would you like to ride mine?”

The children were thrilled at the offer and eagerly accepted.

“Yes please!” they all cheered.

The children took turns riding Mrs. Brock the Badger’s bicycle around the park, laughing and shouting with joy. She watched with delight as the children were having the time of their lives. After a while, Mrs. Brock the Badger realized that the children had been riding her bicycle for hours. She gently reminded them that it was time to return the bike, but the children begged for just a few more minutes of cycling fun.

“Oh please Mrs. Brock, just a few more spins around the park before tea time?”

Mrs. Brock the Badger couldn’t resist their pleading and allowed them all to ride for a bit longer. When the children were finally finished, she thanked them for taking such good care of her bicycle. She was touched by how much joy the bike had brought to them and decided to give it to the children as a gift. The children were overjoyed and thanked Mrs. Brock the Badger with all their hearts. They promised to take good care of the bicycle and to share it with other children who didn’t have one.

Mrs. Brock the Badger watched with a smile spreading across her face as the children rode away, feeling grateful for the opportunity to spread happiness and kindness in her village community. From that day on, Mrs. Brock the Badger became known as the generous badger who gave away her beloved bicycle to make children happy.

She continued to walk around the village on foot carrying her beloved wicker basket, but she always had a warm smile for the children she met along the way. Her act of kindness touched many hearts and inspired others to spread joy and kindness in their own ways.
