BOOK AT BEDTIME – TALES FROM WALES

Book at Bedtime – Tales From Wales is hosted by Swansea Independent Radio Station, Oystermouth Radio. I have presented this show for over three years, presenting and narrating my own stories and novels in episode format. I felt strongly a new slant was needed, like many of us I get bored with the same old thing, so after much thought I came up with a few new ideas to create more interesting and varied content. It is also very interesting how different projects can begin to merge embryonically. This is what has hatched (forgive the pun).
Setting up my own Publishing House at the beginning of this year enabled a number of new developments for me, not least of which was publishing 500 Words’, An Anthology of Collected Stories written by members of a Creative Writing Group that I facilitate every week at Yrstadgynlais Library. This group of creatives has met weekly for over a year now and produced many great short stories from various images. Many of the members narrated their work at book launches and various public events. I felt the next step for them should be across the radio waves around the globe. So another idea came to fruition.
The new look program has been extended creating two distinct parts. Firstly we are continuing to broadcast serializations of my Crach Ffinnant books, and starting next week we welcome the fourth series, Crach Ffinnant – Justice Prevails. In the second part of the programme new and established writers and authors will have the opportunity to read their own work on air and join me in conversation. There are plans afoot to enable members of the Creative Writing Group to take part in the program and to include more established authors and storytellers from Wales and beyond. This is an exciting time and I look forward to seeing how everything develops.
The first program in the new series is completed, loaded, and ready to go. Our first guest on Wednesday 11 October is Adrian Levy, an artist, and writer, native to Ystalyfera in the Swansea Valley. Adrian is a stalwart participant of the Creative Writing Group and will be reading two of his short stories, both most amusing. The first Reggie the Rampant Rooster tells of a man killed by a bus who is then reincarnated, much to his surprise and astonishment as a rooster. and the second, a cleverly constructed tale about characters from various 50’s and 60’s children’s television programs. Listen as the Woodentops, Spotty Dog, Bill and Ben, Little Weed, Doogle, Florence, Dylan, and Zebedee join forces before bedtime.
After the program is aired on Oystermouth Radio it will then be uploaded here for listeners to catch up each week. I think the next step will be to blog the episodes but time will tell. For now, I am happy with the new look program as is my producer Grant Eden. So join us every Wednesday for Book at Bedtime – Tales from Wales – In Conversation with Lazarus Carpenter. Our guest author on the 18 October will be Rosalind Mary Gough.

Happy Listening!
